Toronto Maple Leafs Trade Kris Versteeg To Philadelphia Flyers For Two Draft Picks. The Toronto Maple Leafs have traded forward Kris Versteeg to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for two draft picks, a first rounder and a third rounder.

Kris Versteeg is on the move again.

The 24-year-old forward has been traded by the Toronto Maple Leafs to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for two draft picks: a first rounder and a third rounder in the upcoming June draft.

The Flyers are already one of the deepest teams in the NHL and this deal just makes them that much deeper. At current, they now have a whopping 15 forwards on the active roster with Versteeg, which makes you think they're not done dealing.

Versteeg adds another element to the Philadelphia attack and the hope is that after struggling in Toronto, he'll be able to roam more freely in the Flyers aggressive forechecking system.

For the Leafs, there's a lot of confusion about this deal. Yes, Versteeg struggled quite a bit there but he seems like the perfect kind of young, affordable two-way forward that a team can build around. Instead, they receive two draft picks that will be late in the first and third rounds. There's no guarantee that those picks will produce a 20-goal NHL scorer.

There are questions in Philadelphia now, too, but those mostly relate to the future and how they'll fit guys like Ville Leino under the salary cap now that Versteeg is there as well. Those are questions for later, though. For now, they're a much better team than they were on Monday morning. Cup or bust.
