Oklahoma State University marks anniversary of plane crash. Thursday marks a dark anniversary for Oklahoma State University. Exactly 10 years ago, a plane went down in a Colorado field, killing two players and eight staff members. The men were on their way back to Stillwater following a game.
Wednesday night, the university held a tribute to their lives during half-time of the OSU-Texas game. Former coach Eddy Sutton was there to take part, as were former team members, staff members and the victims' families.
Among the dozens of family members in attendance were pilot Denver Mills' wife Lindell and daughter Deborah. Lindell says the ceremony was a tremendous comfort to her.
"It's more comforting than I thought it would be. Because I think 10 years is a very ling time. So a lot of wounds have healed. I think we are all in a different place. And I think it's good."
It's the same for Bill Perry, whose nephew Will Hancock died in the crash. Hancock worked as a media specialist for the university. Perry tells 2NEWS, "I think of Will every day. Sometimes I shed a tear. But then I will smile because I am happy because I was so lucky to have him in my life.
On Thursday, school leaders will travel to the crash site in Colorado to pay tribute to the victims.
On campus, the library bells will chime once for each of the victims at 6:37 pm, the exact moment of the crash.
