Gasparilla Parade 2011. The warnings may have worked. After a week of Tampa police cautioning people going to Gasparilla about cracking down on drinking off the parade route and getting out of control, the numbers show a difference.

On Saturday, TPD cited 349 people, nearly all of misdemeanor alcohol violations.

That's down from 415 in 2010.

"Oh yeah, the cops, they were on it. They were definitely on it," said Jamie Whitmire of Clearwater.

Other people at the parade noticed the same thing.

"You used to bring a shopping cart with kegs. It was unbelievable. They don't do it anymore," said Mike Collett of Jacksonville.

Officers also made three felony arrests for grand theft auto, resisting arrest with violence and battery on a law enforcement officer.

Police say the numbers could change slightly as more arrests are made throughout Saturday night and early Sunday morning.
